Type of Research Project
- Clinical Project without Laboratory work
What is the background of the project?
Echocardiograhy in acute myocardial infarction patients is very important for evalutaion of myocardial wall motion abnormalities, localization of infarction, assessment of infarct size, hemodynamic assessment of patient of acute myocardial infarction and detection of mechanical complication of acute myocardial infarction. It is an important investigation for all patients of myocardial infarction and through this project, the role of the echocardiography will be tested through comparing the results of the echocardiograhy findings both before and after the patient takes a thrombolytic.
What is the aim of the project?
To assess the role of echocardiography in patients acute myocardial infarction.
What techniques and methods are used?
Use the echocardioography findings to diagnose the patient with acute myocardial infarction  The patient with myocardial infarction will then take a thrombolytic to improve his case  Another echocardiography shall be done and its findings will be compared with the first one in order to assess the role of echocardiograpy in myocardial infarction patients
What is the role of the student?
- The student will mainly observe
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
- The tasks will be done under supervision
- If the project is clinical
- the student will take active part in the clinical examination
- If the project is clinical
- the student will be allowed to work with patients
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
1. History taking of the patients 2. Clinical examination of the patients presenting to the coronary care unit in the department with acute chest pain and suspected myocardial infarction 3. Collecting the results of the performed echocardiographhy on the patients 4. Follow up with the tutor until the thrombolytic is given to the patient 5. Collect the results of the second echogardiography performed after giving the thromolytic 6. Analysing the collected data and writing a report to explain the role of echocardiograhy in myocardial infaction patients
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
Yes, the tutor will explain to the students the general aspects of the myocardial infarction patients and how to identify them through the echocardiography results. Also, the tutor will help the students by explaining to them the criteria of each patient individually each day.
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student will prepare a scientific report
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
The student should read about the basics of echocardiography.
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
