What is the background of the project?
Interleukin-17F (IL-17F) belongs to IL-17 cytokine family and shares the strongest homology to another better studied member IL-17A. IL-17A and F is the major inflammatory mediator of T helper 17 (Th17) cells, which play significant role in the pathogenesis of multiple inflammatory and autoimmune disorders. Immune microenvironment plays crucial roles in tumor development. Our previous data showed IL-17F has protective role in colon cancer, but the underline mechanism needs to be further clarified. This project is supported by NSFC to discuss the tumor immune therapeutic potential of regulating IL-17F.
What is the aim of the project?
To clarify the role of il-17f in angiogenesis especially in tumor microenvironment regulation, so as to provide new strategy for tumor immunological therapy.
What techniques and methods are used?
The roles of Il-17F are studied both in vitro and in vivo. Overexpressing IL-17F colon cells were cultured. The cells were studied in vitro by measuring cell growth, cell cycle and cell metabolism. The downstream signaling (gene expression) changes were checked by qPCR and western. The cells were also transplanted into nude mice and the tumor size and sections were evaluated,specific markers were stained by immunofluorescence.
What is the role of the student?

What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
Cell culture: learn how to culture endothelial cell in vitro. QPCR and data analysis: learn how to extract RNA and do QPCR to analysis gene expression levels. Flow cytometry and data analysis: learn how to detect markers expressed on cell surface. Work report presentation: every week present your work. Join group seminar: every week learn others’ work report and paper reading presentation, Present a SCI paper once. Write a review on the related topic.
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
The student can learn how to culture cells, extract RNA, and do data analysis, which will be taught by the lab manager.
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student will prepare a presentation

Student should be interested in tumor immuology and have basic knowledge about biochemistry. None
