Type of Research Project
- Basic science
What is the background of the project?
Vascular inflammation which is recognized as an important contributor in hypertension, to the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis as well as to the development of cardiovascular diseases. In this project, we study what kinds of factor is involved in vascular inflammation and animal models for cardiovascular disorder. Also, we study cardiovascular disorder’s chracteristics.
What is the aim of the project?
To understand the assessment of vascular inflammation in vitro and in vivo system. To understand the efficacy assessment for vascular inflammation.
What techniques and methods are used?
At first, all students will learn the animal care and handling esp, mice and rats. Will give opportunity to see telemetric system and In vivo optical imaging system using fluorescence or luciferase system in specific pathogen free animal facility. Endothelial function and monocyte adhesion assay in cultured endothelial cells will be used to measure the vascular inflammation. The data will be analyzed by computer program or by drawing graph.
What is the role of the student?
- The student will mainly observe
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
- The tasks of the student will be performed on his/her own
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
Students will be trained by the professional researcher how to handle and care for rodents. He/she will perform the experiments to measure the level of endothelial dysfunction and vascular inflammation in vivo under supervision. And student must present the scientific reports with experience in laboratory meeting
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
Preliminary reading and introduction lectures will be provided before the laboratory works.
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student will have the opportunity to present the results together with the supervisor at a conference
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
No limitation. Check the allergy health reports for animal facility
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
