Type of Research Project
- Basic science
What is the background of the project?
The Immunopathology Of the Autoimmune diseases has been a long-term research project and a subject of many doctoral theses. In fact, recent accomplishments in cellular immunology, molecular biology, and genetics have influenced current thinking about autoimmunity. Therefore and in order to improve our understanding of this topic, this project will study the different aspects of autoimmune diseases in a subcellular scale in order to understand their uncharted physio-pathological and genetic mechanisms.
What is the aim of the project?
The project is targeting Immunoregulatory Molecules and their biochemical interactions involved in the physio-pathological process generating a malfunctioning immune system and leading to chronic autoimmune diseases.
What techniques and methods are used?
- Practical learning of the main techniques of molecular biology
- Polymerase chain reaction (PCR )
- Southern blot
- DNA sequencing
- Bibliographic research
What is the role of the student?
- The student will mainly observe
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
-Learn bibliographic research methods
-Be familiar with the main laboratory Techniques such as:
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR )
 Southern blot
DNA sequencing
-Analyze and interpret results of a scientific study.
-Handle computed programs in the context of a statistical study.
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
Yes, Courses will be provided by the tutors.
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student will prepare a poster
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
We accept students who have at least completed their third year of medical school. Subjects passed: Fundamental immunology and immuno-pathology.
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
Type of students accepted
This project accepts:
- Medical students
- Graduated students (less than 6 months)
- Pre-Medical students from the American-British system
