What is the background of the project?
Gastric Carcinoma represents 4th most common cancer & 2 nd cause of death. Gastric epithelial carcinoma is the most common type of gastric cancers. Several pathways drive tumorigenesis like Hippo pathway. The Hippo signaling pathway is a newly discovered and conserved signaling cascade, which regulates organ size control by governing cell proliferation and apoptosis. This study aimed to investigate its effects in human gastric cancer. The Hippo signaling pathway is involved in the development, progression and metastasis of human gastric cancer. Therefore, manipulation of Hippo signaling molecules may be a potential therapeutic strategy for gastric cancer.
What is the aim of the project?
Study immunohistochemical expression of YAP1, LATS1 & CDX2 proteins and their prognostic significance as Hippo signaling molecules. The Hippo signaling pathway is involved in the development, progression and metastasis of human gastric cancer. Therefore, manipulation of Hippo signaling molecules may be a potential therapeutic strategy for gastric cancer.
What techniques and methods are used?
1- Haematoxyline & Eosine staining for Diagnosis and evaluation of pathological punctures and biopsies. 2- Immunohistochemical staining of YAP1, LATS1 & CDX2.
What is the role of the student?
- The student will mainly observe
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
1- The student will assist in the whole methods of the research which includes the tissue sampling, the immunohistochemistry and the statistical methods. 2- The student will have to attend at the pathology department for six hours for four days each week. 3- The student will write down all the above mentioned steps in his/her logbook to be signed by the tutors at the end of each shift. 4- At the end of the clerkship the student will make the conclusion of it according to the statistical studies they already made through the whole month to evaluate Study immunohistochemical expression of YAP1, LATS1 & CDX2 proteins and their prognostic significance as Hippo signaling molecules
