Electrocardiogram findings as predictors of coronary angiography and echo cardio graphic findings in patients with acute ST segment elevation myocardial infarction(Tanta University)
Egypt (IFMSA-Egypt) - Tanta University, Tanta
Prof. Dr. / Magdy El Masry
Dr. / Ahmed Ibrahim El-shall
Type of Research Project
- Clinical Project without Laboratory work
What is the background of the project?
In Egypt, myocardial infarction represents the most spread heart disease. This project aims at testing the possibility of the electrocardiogram findings in patients with acute myocardial infarction to predict their coronary angiography data and their echo cardiograph findings. It combines simple clinical tool (electrocardiogram), non invasive imaging technique which is the echo cardiograph and advanced technique as primary percutaneous coronary intervention.
What is the aim of the project?
Correlating electrocardiogram findings of patient with acute ST segment myocardial infarction with both their coronary angiographic and echo cardio graphic data and see if there is any relation between these data.
What techniques and methods are used?
Pateints presenting to our coronary care unit with acute ST segment elevation myocardial infarction and undergo primary percutaneous coronary interventionand echo cardiographic study. The student will gather their datat and the electrocardiogram findings of these patients to correlate them to the data.
What is the role of the student?
- The student will mainly observe
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
1- History taking of the patient 2- Clinical examination of the patient of the patient presenting to or coronary care department with acute ST segment elevation myocardial infarction 3- Collecting angiographic and echo cardio graphic findings of the patient 4-Correlating between electrocardiogram findings, angiographic data and echo cardio graphic findings 5- Creating a presentation that show the results of the study The first 2 steps are strictly under supervision, but the remains will be performed on his own after the explanation of the tutor and his help to accomplish them to.
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
Yes, there will be Lectures
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student will prepare a poster - The student will prepare a presentation - The student will prepare a scientific report - The student will have the opportunity to present the results together with the supervisor at a conference - The student will prepare an abstract
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
Understand the electrocardiogram segments well
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
Type of students accepted
