Type of Research Project
- Clinical Project without Laboratory work
What is the background of the project?
The ingestion of caustic substances is a frequent accident in the child. The treatment of caustic strictures of the esophagus, which constitute the most frightening complication, varies from conservative treatment to esophageal replacement. Esophageal dilatation is a therapeutic endoscopic procedure that enlarges the lumen ofthe esophagus. Pneumatic Dilatation is nowadays an innovative treatment for both peptic and caustic esophageal strictures.
What is the aim of the project?
Recognize clinical and paraclinical aspects of esophageal strictures  Determine the different therapeutic means depending on the etiology of the stricture  Detail indications and results of esophageal dilatations
What techniques and methods are used?
This study includes : - Prospective collection and interpretation of data from patients with esophageal stricture admitted in our department. - Approximately 3 to 5 patients per week - Clinical examination - Endoscopy : Pneumatic esophageal dilatation
What is the role of the student?
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
View patient observations  Discuss patient management and develop a fact sheet  Attend dilation sessions and take videos
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
Yes (Preliminary readings and Articles)
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student will prepare a poster
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
The student must have completed Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery and should have completed Gastrology.
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
