Type of Research Project
- Clinical Project with Laboratory work
What is the background of the project?
STEMI is one type of heart attack that can be defined as a development of full thickness cardiac muscle damage resulting from an acute interruption of blood supply to a part of the heart and can be demonstrated by ECG (electrocardiography) change of ST-segment elevation. The MIRAMI Registry is a registry that collects all cases of STEMI (ST elevation myocardial infarction) from 1995 up to now that was admitted in cardiology department(A), including data about several presented emergency complications and follow up.
What is the aim of the project?
To Study the change overtime concerning the demographic, the management and the outcome of patients with STEMI and do a follow-up.
What techniques and methods are used?
Prospective collection of data on patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction -Reporting information on paper -Using electronic reports : CRF (Cardiovascular Research Foundation)
What is the role of the student?
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
Identifying the potential candidate to be included in the registry, means studyingcases of STEMI (ST elevation myocardial infarction) admitted in the cardiology department and confirming their eligibility which will allow them to be both involved with patients on the clinical leveland with tutors by assisting in entering the data and doing statistics.
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
Yes, there will be oral presentations on the project methodology, aims and potential difficulties in collecting data.
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student’s name will be mentioned in a future publication
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
No specific skills required.
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
