Type of Research Project
- Clinical Project with Laboratory work
What is the background of the project?
Protein phosphatase 1D is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the PPM1D gene. It is a negative regulator of cell stress response pathways. This phosphatase mediates a feedback regulation of p53 (a tumor supressor protein) signaling that contributes to growth inhibition and the suppression of stress induced apoptosis. This gene is suggested to have a role in cancer development. NHL (Non-Hodgkin's Lenfoma) can start almost anywhere in the body. It may start in a single lymph node, a group of lymph nodes, or an organ such as the spleen. And it can spread to almost any part of the body, like the liver and bone marrow. So it is important to detect the oncogenic factors as much as possible to understand this disease better and treat it more successfully. What is the aim of the project? The aim of the project is to identify the genetic defects of protein phosphatase PPM1D/Wip1 (Protein phosphatase 1D magnesium-dependent/wild-type p53-induced phosphatase 1) gene allowing to evade the DNA damage response (DDR) barrier, thus the oncogenic potential of Wip1 in human Non-Hodgkin
