What is the background of the project?
Anatomy studies were performs by studying of the cadaver. These studies are internationally proposed as the best models for an understanding of human anatomy. Its historical background is too large, extensive and well known. The main current problem is the study of the patient's anatomy. Radiological methods allow a large amount of image in DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine) format, and today it is possible process these image with a laptop in an easy way, several time and in different mode. Virtual rendering volume is a satisfactory method for analyses of the human anatomy.
What is the aim of the project?
The aims of this project are to teach how to provide a virtual rendering volume of the regional anatomy, and then how it is possible to use this image in virtual reconstructions of the anatomy and its approach to the clinician.
What techniques and methods are used?
Human Dissection. Radiological analyses of CT. ( by Osirix ®) Scientific Photography (Sterography pair) Design of 3D presentation (.pptx) Design of 3D file printer (.stl)
What is the role of the student?
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
Dissection (Facial nerve dissection). The student will perfom an anatomical dissection of the facial and temporomandibular region for the analyses of the region to be studied by CT. Radiological Analyses of Dicom file of same area. (stylomastoid area). The student will use the software of reconstruction of volumes to generate three-dimensional images and obtain the archives .stl format Get rendered images. Stereoscopic methods for analyses of images. Both digital photography and rendered images will be edited images as stereoscopic pairs. 3D technique process of the image for slides presentations.
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
Yes, the students will have short lessons and brief reminders of anatomical concepts.
