The Aryle hydrocarbone hydroxylase gene polymorphism in smoker and non-smoker individuals in Canakkale population
Turkey (TurkMSIC) - Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University , Canakkale
Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University Faculty of Medicine Department of Medical Genetics
Type of Research Project
- Basic science
What is the background of the project?
Aryle hydrocarbon hydroxylase is an inducible, membrane-bound enzyme involved in the metabolism of chemical carcinogens. This enzyme is thought to be a carginogenic factor when mutated and is increased with smoking. In former studies performed to show the linkage between mutated Aryle Hydrocarbone Hydroxylase (AHH) and broncogenic carcinoma indicates that susceptibility to bronchogenic carcinoma is associated with the higher levels of inducible aryl hydrocarbon hyroxylase activity. This projects consists of comparing the mutated Aryle hydrocarbone hydroxylase (AHH) gene profiles in smoker and non-smoker individuals in Canakkale population, and by this confirm the possible metabolized and preventive role of the AHH gene in active smokers. The aim of this project is to confirm that the expression of the mutated AHH gene is a possible contributing factor in the development of lung cancer.
