Type of Research Project
- Basic science
What is the background of the project?
Paraguay is a country with an economy highly sustained in agriculture. In the last years the development in the use of genetic modified organism and the lax regulation about the use of agrochemicals made that familiar farmers were exposed to dangerous chemicals in the soil and their water. The laboratory is looking to determinate the presence of DNA damage in the farmers of the population exposed to agrochemicals. The aim of the project is to acquire knowledge and skills in the development of bioassays proposed for the detection of DNA damage. The techniques used will be In vivo bioassays: micronucleus assay and nuclear abnormalities in mucous cells, comet assay
What is the aim of the project?
to acquire knowledge and skills in the development of bioassays proposed for the detection of DNA damage
What techniques and methods are used?
In vivo bioassays: micronucleus assay and nuclear abnormalities in mucous cells, comet assay "single cell electrophoresis essay" in peripheral blood
What is the role of the student?
- If the project includes “lab work”
- the student will take active part in the practical aspect of the project
- The tasks of the student will be performed on his/her own
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
the student will participate in research projects developed within scientific initiation program. It is expected that the student can join the group of laboratory members, acquiring knowledge and contributing with their own knowledge to the research
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student will prepare a presentation - The student will prepare a scientific report
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
The student should have already studied subjects such as cell Biology and Genetics. Biosafety knowledge to work at the Laboratory. The student must bring his/her lab coat. The student must bring his/her logbook.
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
Type of students accepted
