Type of Research Project
- Clinical Project with Laboratory work
What is the background of the project?
Modern microbiology is attractive area due to the large opportunities and prospects of diagnosis and treatment. Students study sciences about microorganisms and its role in development of diseases. Knowledge of the pathogenesis, etiology and diagnostic methods of infectious diseases plays an important role in preventionof development of these infections.Training in the international summer school of microbiologists has obvious advantages for formation of individualized, functional, modern, efficient and practical skills of students. The aim of our project is formationof practical skills needed to correctly apply the laboratory methods for the effective diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. School at microbiology department is a joint project of microbiology department and leading specialists of practical public health of Karaganda town (Kazakhstan). To achieve microbiological objectives will be used: 1. Laboratory of KSMU, which consist of microbiological, immunological, chromatographic and PCR diagnostics units. Laboratory carries out genetic, molecular biological, biochemical, immunological and neuromorphological methods and conductsstudy of molecular-biological and genetic bases of life and the mechanisms of pathogenicity and variability of microorganisms and prophylaxis of infectious diseases. 2. Microbiological laboratory of Microbiology Department (KSMU), Blood Center Karaganda town, microbiological laboratory "Natije" for the production of sour-milk products, laboratory "Phytochemistry". 3. Highly Professional team of teachers of microbiology department, the leading scientific employees of KSMU and microbiologists of higher professional categories of healthcare practice.

What is the role of the student?
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
- Students of the international school of microbiologists will be the listener of selected issues of clinical Microbiology - etiology and pathogenesis of microbial diseases - biological characteristics of conditionally-pathogenic microorganisms. Student will be a member of performance of modern molecular-genetic techniques - microbiological monitoring of nosocomial infections and interpretation of the antibiogram - discuss the results and summarize the results. Our school will implement active cognitive activity and personal involvement of each student that will undoubtedly benefit in their future professional activity and further scientific search.
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
yes
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student will prepare a poster
- The student will prepare a presentation
- The student will prepare a scientific report
- The student will prepare an abstract
- The student’s name will be mentioned in a future publication
- The student will have the opportunity to present the results together with the supervisor at a conference
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
Next skills are required : the skills for procedure with scientific literature, microscope, laboratory equipment. Students should have knowledge of microbiology, molecular biology, anatomy, biochemistry, mathematical methods of analysis. There are not any legal limitatons in the student
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
No
