Type of Research Project
- Basic science
What is the background of the project?
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by spontaneous and recurrent seizures. These crises reflect paroxysmal and abnormal electrical activity involving one or several areas of the central nervous system and which can be caused by several structural and neurochemical disorders. Epileptic seizures suffer influence of the endougenous circadian rhythms and this interactionhas important clinical implications, including the chronotherapy. The molecular pathway associated to this interaction is unknown and in this project, we are investigating this relevant issue.
What is the aim of the project?
Its aim consists on investigating changes in the expression of clock genes in the hippocampus of animals with experimental epilepsy.
What techniques and methods are used?
For that, will be used experimental epilepsy induction; animal behavior analysis and Gene expression analysis (Real time PCR and Western blotting) .
What is the role of the student?
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
For that, will be used experimental epilepsy induction; animal behavior analysis and Gene expression analysis (Real time PCR and Western blotting) .
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
