Type of Research Project
- Clinical Project without Laboratory work
What is the background of the project?
Causes of intracranial hemorrhage, better understanding of intracranial circulation, and understanding of the relationship between aneurysms and brain perfusion is one of the most important goals of the modern neuroseurgery. The Circle of Willis has been shown to exhibit many kinds of anatomical variations, however, their connection to aneurysms hasn't been thoroughly explored. Together with their mentor, students will study and determine the size and type of aneurysms, and their possible relationship with types of the Circle of Willis. This assesments will mostly be done using the PAN-angiographic procedures. Afterwards, this findings will be compared to the intraoperative findings.
What is the aim of the project?
Aim of this project is to establish a connection between the location of intracranial aneurysms with the types of circle of Willis and the possibility of intracranial aneurysm rupture.
What techniques and methods are used?
Computer analysis of brain blood flow by PAN-angiography, and microscopic analysis of the bloodstream during surgeries of ruptured aneurysms.
What is the role of the student?
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
Student would be included in the analysis of clinical patients, analysis of blood flow and position of the aneurysm after the pan-angiography. If possible, students might also assist the surgeon during the surgery..
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
It is necessary that the student has the knowledge of the anatomy of the brain blood circulation, the clinical condition of the patients with intracranial aneurysm rupture and methods of treatment of ruptured aneurysms.
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student will prepare a presentation
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
It is necessary that the student has the knowledge of the anatomy of the brain blood circulation, the clinical condition of the patients with intracranial aneurysm rupture and methods of treatment of ruptured aneurysms.
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
No
