Type of Research Project
- Clinical Project without Laboratory work
What is the background of the project?
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a set of metabolic disorders, affecting different organs and tissues, lifelong and is characterized by increased levels of blood glucose. The World Health Organization recognizes three forms: type 1, type 2 and gestational, each with different reasons and with different incidence. Trujillo state leads to local statistics remain a point above the national average with 5.91% prevalence of the disease, according to recent reports issued by the Ministry of Health (Mortality Epidemiological Report 2006, published in the year 2007), therefore we suggest the implementation of control measures that allow early diagnosis as well as monitoring and metabolic and cardiovascular control by quantification of glycated hemoglobin HbA1c, CRP, microalbuminuria and D-dimer, also maintain a program of Medical Education and Community to unify diagnostic criteria regarding Guilds Medical, Nurses bioanalyst and primary care, and screening prevalence by municipalities by drawing a map of the spatial distribution of the disease locally. aim: Determine the metabolic and cardiovascular condition of diabetic patients in Trujillo state and improve their medical control Techniques: Glycated hemoglobin A1C test, and PCR D-dimer, microalbuminuria.
What is the aim of the project?
Determine the metabolic and cardiovascular condition of diabetic patients in Trujillo state and improve their medical control
What techniques and methods are used?
Glycated hemoglobin A1C test, and PCR D-dimer, microalbuminuria.
What is the role of the student?
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
To learn how to diagnose the metabolic conditions produced by diabetes
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
Students who aspire to participate should have taken and aproved the subjects corresponding to basic and pre- clinical medical studies. Given the limited security conditions offered by the country, you should assume their own responsibility their stay in the town.
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
