Type of Research Project
- Basic science
What is the background of the project?
The stay will be focused on preparation and isolation of recombinant protein in prokaryote expression system, its characterization by SDS-PAGE and Western blot and determination of basic biochemical properties. Recombinant proteins are extensively used as a biopharmaceuticals in broad areas of current medicine. The process is initiated by experimental preparation of recombinant protein in research laboratory followed by it's characterization, before clinical testing. This initial step of biopharmaceuticals preparation will be demonstrated during the offered stay.
What is the aim of the project?
The aim of the project is the demonstration and practical training of basic procedures necessary for recombinant protein preparation.
What techniques and methods are used?
Bacteria cultivation, lysis of bacteria, protein affinity purification, SDS-PAGE, Western blot.
What is the role of the student?
- The student will mainly observe
- If the project includes “lab work”
- the student will take active part in the practical aspect of the project
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
Thorough understanding of the research topic and high involvement in the team work.
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
Articles for the theoretical preparation.
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- No specific outcome is expected
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
Basic knowledge of laboratory microbiology, basic knowledge of molecular biology.
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
