Type of Research Project
- Clinical Project with Laboratory work
What is the background of the project?
Significance of the problem of acute cerebrovascular accident is determined by its prevalence, high mortality and disability. Cerebral atherosclerosis is one of the major risk factors for ischemic stroke. The course of atherosclerosis quite often is followed by a number of the pathological states promoting its progressing designated in modern scientific literature by the term "metabolic syndrome". Instigated and / or exacerbated by metabolic syndrome morphological and functional changes in the blood vessels contribute to the development of cerebral ischemia.
What is the aim of the project?
The aim of the project is to determine the role of metabolic syndrome and lipid metabolism disorders in patients with ischemic stroke.
What techniques and methods are used?
Techniques and methods will be used: - Working with medical documents (laboratory tests, etc.) - Physical examination of patients in neurology unit. Questionnaire of patients, statistical analysis.
What is the role of the student?
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
Participation in patients examination, estimating results of laboratory tests, questionnaire of patients, statistical analysis of data - Skills in estimating results of labratory tests - Estimating and recognizing disorders in lipid metabolism - Practice in physical examination of patients in neurology unit after ischemic stroke - statistical analysis of data
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
- seminar with discussion - lections
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student will prepare a presentation
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
Final test or exam in Neurology should be passed
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
