What is the background of the project?
Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease related to a permanent digestive hypersensibility to gluten , and it occurs in genetically predisposed subjects. To screen for celiac disease ,IgA transglutaminase and IgA anti-endomysium antibodies are widely used. The complement deficiencies are rare diseases , but they are associated to a wide spectrum of infections, autoimmune and inflammatory disorders.
What is the aim of the project?
The project aims to : -Improve the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases -Screen for antibodies in celiac disease -Screen for complement deficiency
What techniques and methods are used?
-Immunofluorescence -ELISA ( enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay ) -Antigen array ( C3 , C4 )
What is the role of the student?
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
The student is expected to research on his own and to work with patients (Examination) under supervision.
