Type of Research Project
- Clinical Project with Laboratory work
What is the background of the project?
Different assessment methods of the immune and endocrine systems are used during radiation therapy for objectivity of the functional status in lung cancer patients and rectal cancer patients. Recently mathematical analysis of heart rate variability has been intensively introduced into practice. It allows to evaluate the condition of the main regulatory systems and foremost ? the autonomous nervous system. Noninvasiveness, universality and adequate accuracy of this method and development of information technologies caused large-scale introduction and actuality of the method.
What is the aim of the project?
The aim of the project is assessment of the functional status in lung cancer patients and rectal cancer patients during radiation therapy according to heart rate variability and a possibility to predict the immediate post radiation complications.
What techniques and methods are used?
-Methods of analysis of heart rate RR-intervals variability according to electrocardiogram: - ECG registration in prone position within 5 min; - Construction and visual analysis of rythmogram; - Analysis of rythmogram - The student will examine the patients
What is the role of the student?
- The student will mainly observe
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
- To perfom and Analyse of rythmogram and ECGs - The student will examine the patients
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
- The student will be provided lectures: - Diagnostics of lung cancer; - Radiation therapy of lung cancer; - Diagnostics of lung cancer; - Radiation therapy of lung cancer.
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student will prepare a presentation - The student will prepare a scientific report
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
The student should have the knowledge of anatomy functional diagnostics, internal medicine, surgery, oncology, radiology and radiation therapy. For the use of students considering participating in the project, further information can be found from the following articles :
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
Type of students accepted
