What is the background of the project?
Diabetes is a disease whose incidence has been increasing in our country (PERU) Many patients seen in the emergency room come for advanced complications, and that is because they do not have an adequate control. For this reason is proposed this project to evaluate whether a phone call can help the patient to have good control and avoid complications.
What is the aim of the project?
Clinical trial, in which the impact of an intervention will be evaluated, with educational phone calls to patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who were diagnosed in Cayetano Heredia Hospital. The results will evaluate treatment adherence and glycemic control at 6 months follow-up
What techniques and methods are used?
In this clinical trial, patients with type 2 diabetes who attending to the diabetes clinic selected and were randomly assigned to experiment and control groups. They will follow up using telephone calls for 6 months. Demographic characteristics, compliance with treatment recommendations (diet, drug use, exercise) and blood glucose control indices were recorded before and after interventions.
What is the role of the student?
- If the project is clinical
- the student will be allowed to work with patients
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
The role of the student is statistical analysis and manage of database, and we expect see his/her initiative and commitment with the research.
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
