What is the background of the project?
Intrauterine growth is a biological process regulated by maternal, placental and fetal endocrine signals. The placenta plays an important role controlling the growth and development of the fetus. Therefore, the study of the expression of these factors in placenta is crucial for understanding the mechanisms that influence birth weight regulation. It is proposed to establish a methodology for the detection of protein expression of molecules involved in intrauterine growth, standardizing this technique in mammalian tissues in which the expression of these molecules be high.
What is the aim of the project?
The aims of the project is to standardize the detection of protein expression of growth factors in control tissues, in order to extrapolate to human placenta technique.
What techniques and methods are used?
1) Measurement of the amount of protein in biological samples (spectrophotometric quantification of protein). 2) Separation of proteins (electrophoresis). 3) Electroblotting of proteins and detection of growth factors with specific antibodies (Western blot).
What is the role of the student?
