The effect of pentadecapeptide BPC 157 on deep vein thrombosis and related conditions, its mechanisms and relations to NO-system and egr-1/nab2 signal
Croatia (CroMSIC) - University of Zagreb, Zagreb
Department of Pharmacology
Professor M. Klarica, MD, PhD
Professor Predrag Sikiric, MD, PhD; Professor S. Seiwerth, MD, PhD; D. Drmic, MD
Type of Research Project
- Basic science
What is the background of the project?
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a huge concern and mortality and morbidity source. BPC 157 is an originally anti-ulcer peptide (implemented in IBD trials, and now MS, LD1 not achieved) with particular effects on NO-system, wound healing, endothelium and blood vessels and bleeding recently reviewed. Thus, the resolved initiation, propagation, and resolution of venous thrombus, as well as promoting new pharmaceutical approaches to prophylaxis and treatment of DVT are crucial.
What is the aim of the project?
We propose stable gastric pentadecapeptide BPC 157 as a possible therapy of DVT and other related disorders.
What techniques and methods are used?
Laparotomy, surgery, ECG recording, blood collection, blood pressure measurement, pathohystologic assessment, collateralization assessment in area around ligated inferior caval vein (IVC), measurement and assessment of urination, consumed water, leg and foot edema and cyanosis, Quantitative PCR (qPCR) gene expression analysis, (Immuno)histochemistry, Western blotting.
What is the role of the student?
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- No specific outcome is expected
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
For better preparation students can search PubMed for terms: BPC 157 or Sikiric P.
Upon arrival there will be theoretical introduction about BPC 157 project, few hours length.
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
Type of students accepted
This project accepts: - Medical students - Graduated students (less than 6 months) - Pre-Medical students from the American-British system
