Type of Research Project
- Clinical Project with Laboratory work
What is the background of the project?
-
What is the aim of the project?
We are examining DNA from children with insulin-dependent diabetes who have been diagnosed as type 1 but are negative for autoimmune markers and show no linkage to the HLA region.
What techniques and methods are used?
Candidate genes are being sequenced to detect mutations in candidate genes for non-autoimmune diabetes, such as maturity-onset diabetes in the young (MODY).
What is the role of the student?
- The tasks of the student will be performed on his/her own
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
DNA sequencing
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
Depends on the tutor
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- No specific outcome is expected
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
Understanding basic notions of genetics, intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn new things. No technical prerequisites.
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
No
