What is the background of the project?
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), such as Crohn's disease disease and ulcerative colitis are, characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. TNBS- and DSS induced colitis model is a powerful tool to investigate the mechanism of IBD. As some IBD patients do not respond to existing treatment option, an alternative treatment of stem cell therapy might be considered. Among stem cell therapy, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are main focus of our research team. Our research focus is on establishing safe production of MSCs and examining the effect of MSCs to mouse model of colitis. To determine the effect of inflammation on changes in colonic smooth muscle contractility and contribution of protein kinase C, CPI-17 and thin filament proteins. The following techniques are used for the project : Tension measurement, electrophysiology, confocal imaging and basic molecular biology technique

- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
Student can learn tension measurement, patch-clamp technique, Calcium imaging, basic molecular biology technique. Student takes part in project as a research assistant. Department wish student to acquire knowledge and techniques for basic medical science.
