Apoptic activity of Naturo-mimetics in combination with TRAIL on human glioblastoma
Korea (KMSA) - Catholic Kwandong university, Gangwon province
Department of Microbiology, College of Medicine, Catholic KwanDong University
Yun-sun PARK M.D., Ph.D.
Daeho KWON Ph.D.
Type of Research Project
- Basic science
What is the background of the project?
Glioblastoma is most common type of malignant primary brain tumor. Surgery is impossible to removal all of tumor tissue which extends into normal tissue. Radiation therapy slows down tumor proliferation, but does not cure tumor. Chemotherapy may be toxic to other organs in the body. So combinations of drugs are used to find the drugs for the treatment. This study provide anti-tumor candidate drug with validation of optimal naturo-mimetics which show potent anti-tumor activity for human glioblastoma.
To investigate optimal naturo-mimetics with potent apoptic activity in human glioblastoma cell line. The following techniques are used for the project : 1) Reagent : naturo-mimetics (100 groups in library), TRAIL, 2) Cell : human glioblastoma cell-line, 3) Antitumor activity measurement : LDH assay, MTT assay
What is the aim of the project?
To investigate optimal naturo-mimetics with potent apoptic activity in human glioblastoma cell line.
What techniques and methods are used?
Reagent: naturo-mimetics (100 groups in library), TRAIL Cell : human glioblastoma cell-line Antitumor activity measurement : LDH assay, MTT assay
What is the role of the student?
- The student will mainly observe
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
Student takes part in project as a research assistant. Department wish student acquire knowledge and techniques for basic medical science. Student will read about project-related journal articles. Department wish student acquire knowledge and techniques for basic medical science.
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student will prepare a poster - The student will have the opportunity to present the results together with the supervisor at a conference
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
