What is the background of the project?

What is the aim of the project?
To evaluate the potential role of plasma obtained from obese children in regulating vascular function such as no bioavailability. Since ER stress has been recently potentially involved in vascular dysfunction associated to metabolic alterations, we aim to evaluate potential involvement of endothelial ER-stress in obesity.
What techniques and methods are used?
Primary cultures of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) western blot analysis, citofluorimetric evaluations of protein expr. and localiz. confocal microscopy, real time PCR, radiometric evaluation of NO production, ELISA kits to evaluate CGMP levels, nitrotirosine.
What is the role of the student?
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
To follow laboratory activities associated to the specific perform in very simple lab tasks. To participate in weekly lab meeting, reporting, weekly activities.
