What is the background of the project?
The gliovascular connections have basic importance in the vascularisation, revascularization following lesion, formation and alterations of the blood-brain barrier, the blood-brain water-, ion- and metabolic transports. These connections mainly provided by the dystroglycan- dystrophin complex, and integrins, and involve the cytoskeleton of the glia (actin, GFAP, vimentin, nestin), too.

What is the aim of the project?
_Following the alterations of the abovementioned connections by histochemical methods, regarding to the progress and healing of the alterations.

What techniques and methods will be used?
_Experimental operations and immunohistochemistry (mainly fluorescent)

Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)?
_Basic knowledge on astroglia, perivascular glia, basal lamina, blood-brain barrier, integrin, aquaporin, dystroglycan, GFAP.

What is the role of the student and what is expected from him/her during the research exchange?
_Mainly perfusion of the operated animals, and immunohistocemical processing
