What is the background of the project?
Health expenditure increase in the past years has generated high household out-ofpocket expenditure, with drug spending being the main expense in Chile. In October 2015 the first popular pharmacy (PP) was launched in our country being its main purpose to diminish the expenditure for those enrolled. More than 20 municipalities in the Metropolitan Region(MR) joined the initiative but none has been formally evaluated. The aim of this project is to assess the value of PP in the MR. Cross-sectional design, probabilistic two-stage sampling for the enrolled users of the PP in the MR. Access, perception and prices will be evaluated. To asses access and perception a questionnaire will be used prior informed consent and validation. For price evaluation, the municipalities will be asked to provide a list of the medicines with sale prices. Subsequently the comparison of the prices reported by the popular pharmacies will be compared with the ones reported by the Department of Studies in SERNAC.
