Type of Research Project
- Basic science
What is the background of the project?
The key topic of this project is analysis of cell cycle checkpoints and genome integrity maintenance mechanisms (e.g. in radio/chemotherapy) in prostate cancer, to better understand molecular pathogenesis, treatment responsiveness or resistance, and the role of cancer stem cells in these processes.
What is the aim of the project?
To analyse the cell cycle checkpoints and genome integrity maintenance mechanisms in prostate cancer.
What techniques and methods are used?
We will use cell culture and gene transfer models, clinical material and a wide range of immunohistochemical, cell and molecular biology methods.
What is the role of the student?
- The tasks will be done under supervision
- If the project includes “lab work”
- the student will take active part in the practical aspect of the project
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
Student as a member of the research team should learn the main laboratory methods and after be also able to practice them for him/herself. The student is expected to gain knowledge in cell culture, immunohistochemical, cell and molecular biology methods.
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
Theoretical articles can be provided for the student upon request.
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- No specific outcome is expected
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
Knowledge in molecular biology, cell cycle and its checkpoints. Student should gain the practical knowledge of the main laboratory techniques.
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
