Development and Production of New Peptide Antibiotics
Turkey (TurkMSIC) - Acibadem University, Istanbul
Acibadem University, School of Medicine, Department of Medical Microbiology
Tanil Kocagoz, M.D., Ph.D
Tanil Kocagoz, M.D., Ph.D.
Type of Research Project
- Basic science
What is the background of the project?
Plants, insects, animals and humans produce natural peptide antibiotics in their secretions. In theory, producing these peptide antibiotics with Recombinant DNA Technology is possible. What is the aim of the project? The aim of the project is determine motifs of peptide antibiotics and produce them with recombinant DNA technology. What techniques and methods will be used? Recombinant DNA Technology. Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)? There will be lectures and practical training about the basis of recombinant DNA technology and peptide antibiotics What is the role of the student and what is expected from him/her during the research exchange? Learn and apply microbiology and molecular biology techniques like culturing bacteria, performing susceptibility tests, plasmid DNA isolation, pouring and running electrophoresis gels, DNA amplification by PCR.
What is the aim of the project?
What techniques and methods are used?
What is the role of the student?
- The student will mainly observe
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student will prepare a poster - The student will prepare a presentation - The student will prepare a scientific report
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
The students are expected to have basic knowledge in biology and chemistry. There are no special legal requirements. For the use of students considering participating in the project, further information can be found from the following articles Papers related to the project are not yet published. Reading general articles, book chapters related to the project is recommended.
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
