What is the background of the project?
Cleft lip and palate is one of the most common congenital anomalies. There are many techniques and modifications of cleft lip repair procedure. And there is no an accepted international standard for assessing the results of cleft lip repair to compare techniques. The aim of this research project is try to find an easy and practical system for assessment the outcomes of cleft lip repairing procedures.
What is the aim of the project?
The aim of this research project is try to find an easy and practical system for assessment the outcomes of cleft lip repair.
What techniques and methods are used?
This study will be conducted in a two weeks of a free surgical mission where it is expected to examine 300 case and operate about 150 cases during the mission period
What is the role of the student?
- The student will mainly observe
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
After the exchange period the student will be aware of the new tools of assessing aesthetic outcome in cleft lip patients, the different steps of the utilization of the tools needed for the treatment, the basics of the medical scientific research and methodology, and some statistics regarding the incidence of the cleft lip & palate in Sohag, Egypt.
