What is the background of the project?
Informal caregivers are persons who provide unpaid assistance to relatives and friends who have health problems or functional needs (especially elder dependent people). The influence of regular informal caregiving on health is the subject matter of an extensive, yet sometimes inconsistent, literature. Conventional assumption links caregiving to a decline in health through various pathways related to chronic stress, notably depressed immune state, greater cardiovascular reactivity and psychological distress.
