LEARNING PROCESSES AND ELECTROPHYSIOLOGICAL DIFFERENTIATION IN THE BRAIN
Turkey (TurkMSIC) - Dokuz Eylul University, Izmir
Biophysics and Medical Physics
Dokuz Eylul University, Faculty of medicine department of Biophysics
Assoc. Prof. Dr Murat Ozgoren
Dr. Adile Oniz, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Ozgoren
Type of Research Project
- Basic science
What is the background of the project?
Learning is a dynamic process of the brain that goes on at a minute time scale. This project will assess the procedural learning effects of different stimuli. Electrophyological tecniques and behavior data analysis under simple statistical methods will be used. And the project enviroment will also introduce the students with real life laboratory work.
In this project, healthy humans will be studied and their brain responses will be recorded by using digital EEG under certain tasks (stimuli of visual, auditory and somatosensorial). From the point of view that the healthy subjects will be used, this is categorized as a basic neuroscience study, therefore it is aiming to understand the functionality aspects of healthy human brain. The observation will also include the case of the student performing an assessment on his/her own EEG data, to enable better understanding of the experiments. The learning is a dynamic process of the brain, which will be addressed through the electrophysiological and behavioral responses.
The student will be able to perform hands on recording of EEG-ERP system. He/she will be able to see his/her own brain waves/recordings. The outcome of the work-report could be a poster, which depends on the attendance of the student.
What is the aim of the project?
What techniques and methods are used?
What is the role of the student?
- The student will mainly observe
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student will prepare a scientific report
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
Computer usage, Excel. There are no legal limitations except for ethic issues
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
