What is the background of the project?
Skeletal muscle is a compliant and elastic tissue, which serves to maximize the efficiency of its contractile machinery so that it may produce force to drive movement. Skeletal muscle is a post-mitotic tissue that is thought, conventionally to be maintained by repair and regeneration by a population of stem cell-like satellite cells.The myofibres are in G0 phase and incapable of further division. Nonetheless, growth and regeneration does occur rapidly and efficiently from myogenic precursor cells. The predominant source of these is the satellite cells that lie between the plasmalemma and the basement membrane of each fibre. When activated, these cells proliferate rapidly to produce myoblasts that fuse with pre-existing fibres and with one another to replace part or all of any damaged fibres.
What is the aim of the project?
To understand the mechanisms of sceletal muscle regeneration for potenital treatments.
What techniques and methods are used?
Various molecular and immunohistochemical methods, depending on the time in which the student participates in the research.
What is the role of the student?

Participate and contribute in the research - lab work/ data analysis/ collecting relevant data, depending on the time when the student will join the research.
