Type of Research Project
- Basic science
What is the background of the project?
Many studies have reported increased serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in patients with acute coronary syndromes. We search for the association between the polymorphism of the VEGF gene and myocardial infarction (MI) in subjects with type 2 diabetes. Genetical analysis of patients with myocardial infarction and control subjects with polymerase chain reaction.
What is the aim of the project?
the aim is to find genetic markers of micro and macrovascular complications of atherosclerosis and mycardial infarction in diabetics.
What techniques and methods are used?
PCR and others
What is the role of the student?
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
Student will participate in lab work.He/she may also participate in poster/paper (depending on the interest and preliminary knowledge).
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
yes
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- The student will prepare a poster
- The student will prepare a presentation
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
A knowledge and laboratory skills regarding PCR (polymerase chain reaction) methods
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
No
