What is the background of the project?
Most of biological functions exhibit daily rhythms, which are under the control of a number of factors including clock genes, day/night cycle and feed timing. We are investigating how these multiple factors regulate clock output genes to produce daily rhythms for physiological accomplishment, and how its disturbance leads to onset of life-style diseases.
What is the aim of the project?
We are especially interested in genes for energy metabolism in the liver and for plasticity such as learning and memory in the brain.
What techniques and methods are used?
Learnable techniques are (primary neuronal) cell culture, northern analysis, western analysis, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization analysis.
What is the role of the student?
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
- The tasks will be done under supervision
