What is the background of the project?
The murine Ifi202 gene (a member of the Ifi200 family of interferon-inducible genes) has been recently identified as one of the major gene responsible for lupus susceptibility. In this context, we have started a series of experiments in the human system to clarify whether the human Ifi202 counterpart, IFI16, is also involved in the genesis of autoimmune diseases. To this regard we have already collected sera from patients suffering from various autoimmune diseases, including Systemic Lupus erythematosus (SLE), systemic sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, etc, that will be analysed for the presence of autoantibodies against IFI16. Both ELISA and western blotting with the recombinant IFI16 protein will be run. The results obtained will be statistically analysed and the database of the patient evaluated to look for any correlation.
What is the aim of the project?
What techniques and methods are used?
western blot, production of recombinant proteins, ELISA, immunofluorescence and statistical analysis.
What is the role of the student?
- The student will mainly observe
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- No specific outcome is expected
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
He/she should actively participate to all the activities of the lab.
He/she will acquire how to clarify the molecular mechanisms involved in the generation of autoimmune disorders seeking for new di
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
