What is the background of the project?

This project includes 30 professional soccer players, folowing them up through a competition season of 5 months. They are included in testing procedure three times in competition season: at the beginning of condition phase, at the end of pre-competition phase, and at the end of competition phase.
What is the aim of the project?
The aims of the project are: a promotion of an approach in monitoring the training process of professional soccer players, with evaluating some cardio vascular, hormonal and biochemical parameters, detection of parameters that are connected with status of overreaching or overtraining.
What techniques and methods are used?
These procedures and methods are used:
? antropological measurements: determination of body composition, muscle, bone, fat and lean body mass index as parameters of nutritional status
? functional testing: through maximal incremental Bruce protocol, VO2 max and HR (heart rate) on every stage determinated
? lactate mesaurements: blood capillary samples on every stage of incremental test are tacking and lactate blood concentration are determinated with lactate blood analyser Accutrend
? hematological parameters: with tacking venous blood samples before and after maximal incremental testing, WBC, RBC, HGB, PLT, %LYM, %MON, and %GRA are determinated
? hormonal investigation: with tacking venous blood samples before and after maximal incremental testing, ACTH, Cortisol and Testosteron determinated
? biochemical parameters: with tacking venous blood samples before and after maximal incremental testing, free radicals, K+, CK and feritin determinated
? 2 days after this testing, with Conconi tredmill procedure and polar HR monitoring system (Hr and speed), Anaerobic threshold (AnT) is determinated

to control and evaluate professional soccer training process and find out the earliest signs of overreaching and overtraining
What is the role of the student?
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
- The tasks will be done under supervision
