Ornithine decarboxylase interferes with macrophage-like differentiation and matrix metalloproteinase-9 activation signaling by TNF-alpha via NF-KB
Taiwan (FMS-Taiwan) - Chung Shan Medical University, Taichung
Chung-Shan Medical University, Institute of Immunology, R.1004, NO.110, sec.1, Chien-Kuo N
Type of Research Project
- Basic science
What is the background of the project?
I. The aim of this project is to find out why ornithine decarboxylase(ODC) results in immature activity and deprived differentiation of leukemia, which results in abnormal proliferation and differentiation of myeloid progenitor cells. Our hypothesis is that ODC interferes with macrophage-like differentiation and matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) activation signaling by tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-alpha) via NF-alpha.
What is the aim of the project?
We aim to accomplish the following studies to elucidate the molecular mechanisms about how ODC interferes with the MMP-9 expression on macrophage-like differentiation: 1.The roles of polyamine biosynthesis pathway in TPA-induced macrophage-like differentiation in HL-60 and U-937 cells 2.The roles of ODC in MMP-9 expression and activity during macrophage-like differentiation
What techniques and methods are used?
What is the role of the student?
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
To participate in research activity.
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- No specific outcome is expected
What skills are required of the student? Is there any special knowledge or a certain level of studies needed?
The student needed to know the basic knowledge concerning about Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology and Molecular Biology.
Are there any legal limitations in the student’s involvement
Type of students accepted
