Type of Research Project
- Clinical Project with Laboratory work
What is the background of the project?
Chronic renal diseases (CRD) show a progressive nature, which leads to the development of end-stage renal failure. In CRD, increased oxidative stress and decreased nitrogen monoxide (NO) production play a pivotal role in the deterioration of kidney function.
Oxidative stress enhances non-enzymatic glycation, a progress leading to the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs). Accumulation of AGEs may be in part responsible for the development of diabetic complications.
Both oxidative stress and AGEs interfere with NO production, which may be an important factor influencing the progression of renal disease especially in diabetic nephropathy.
Purpose of the project: To study the factors influencing NO production and to reveal the causes of increased oxidative stress in kidney disease and in diabetes mellitus by means of experimental and clinical investigations.
What is the aim of the project?
