What is the background of the project?
The KetelD dominant female sterile mutations of Drosophila identify the importin-β coding gene. Importin-β has been known to be a component of the nuclear protein import machinery. Analysis of the KetelD-encoded mutant protein revealed that importin-β participates in not only nuclear protein import, but its function is also required in nuclear envelope assembly and formation of the spindle apparatus. We aim to identify the components ? making use of the yeast two hybrid system and a the so-called MALDI TOF mass spectrometry methods to identify components involved in nuclear envelope assembly and formation of the spindle apparatus.

To elucidate the molecular mechanism of nuclear envelope assembly and understand the role of importin-β in the formation of the spindle apparatus.
