What is the background of the project?
What is the aim of the project?
Aims: study of the involvement of growth factors (BDNF, FGF) and neuropeptides (NPY, SOM) in models of epilepsy.
What techniques and methods are used?
Procedures and methods: 1)Surgery: (electrode implant in the limbic system of the rat and mouse, under general anesthesia) 2)Analysis of behaviour and EEG 3)Analysis of gene expression (in situ hybridization, immunoistochemistry, northern blot, western blot) 4)Gene transfer in the CNS using viral vectors
What is the role of the student?
- The student will observe the practical experiments but will be highly involved in the analysis of the results
- The tasks will be done under supervision
What are the tasks expected to be accomplished by the student?
the student will participate in planning experiments and in evaluating the results.
Will there be any theoretical teaching provided (preliminary readings, lectures, courses, seminars etc)
What is expected from the student at the end of the research exchange? What will be the general outcome of the student?
- No specific outcome is expected
