Languages Remarks
Most of the doctors in all University Hospitals are able to speak English. Most patients do not speak English.
Clerkship Type
- Clinical Clerkship
A clinical clerkship is defined as the rotation of a student in a clinical department of a hospital or clinic, such as Dermatology and Pediatrics.
Required level of studies

We only accept clinical students that have successfully finished their first clinical year of medical studies (usually 3rd year of 6 year long studies).

Graduated students allowed

Even if accepted by the hosting country, students must be still enrolled in university by the time the Application Form is sent.

4 weeks, 6 hours a day, 5 days per week

Academic Quality
SloMSA has implemented Academic Quality requirements. Please don't forget your IFMSA logbook/handbook!
In order to obtain the certificate you will be asked to: attend 80% of the clerkship, fill in the logbook/handbook (provided by your university officers) and fill in the Evaluation Form (online).
Special Remarks

Clinical - after 3rd year of studies!

Hospital dress code required: WHITE or other color of surgical scrubs – coat, shirt, pants, clean hospital slippers, student (university, ISIC card) ID.

We DO accept graduated students but only if they are maximum 1 semester after graduation.

Cities Remarks
You must select at least two different cities, otherwise your AF will be rejected and sent back automatically.

FULL calendar months only! (1st-31st of one calendar month or 4 weeks within this period).

Disciplines Remarks
Placement in the desired field is not always possible, so make sure you fill out more than one choice. If you fill out one choice only, this does not mean that you will be placed in that department, but that you agree to any department if the department of choice is not available!

We kindly ask students to follow department placement mentioned in their CA(s). Students that attempt to negotiate a department change with the chief of department without our knowledge will face a disciplinary investigation, risking termination (cancellation) of his/her exchange.

Social Program
Social programm is arranged by the local committees during summer months (July and August). Outside summer months social program depends on the activity of local contact persons. During summer months (July and August) also a trip 'Get to know Slovakia' is organized when all 4 LCs meet together and travel around the most beautiful parts of Slovakia.

Special Remarks

We do place friends as couples if requested but two students maximum can be placed together per LC.

Please note we can NOT provide accommodation for any friends/partners/relatives.

1.4 Mission Statement: "The aim of SCOPE is to promote cultural understanding and co-operation among medical students and all health professionals, through the facilitation of international student exchanges (1951). SCOPE aims to give all students the opportunity to learn about global health, and attains this partly by having its exchanges accredited by medical faculties across the world (2014)”.

Visa requirements

Student is responsible for getting his/her VISA. Please apply for tourist visa. If you need an official signed and stamped Invitation Letter from our organization or any additional document for your VISA application, you must inform us at least 12 weeks in advance!

IMPORTANT: For countries needing VISA for Slovakia, a substitution might be possible until 10 weeks before the beginning of the clerkship as the time would be too short to organize all VISA documents. Please be aware that VISA procedures take time and that we are not responsible for any delay in VISA issuing caused by substitutions.

Special Remarks

ALL LCs: €300The fee includes lodging and boarding. This money has to be transferred to bank account of the LC the Incoming has been placed in till 1 month AFTER student has received his/her CA. The LEO/NEO will contact the student via email and provide all information needed for payment.

International students ID-card (ISIC) is recommended.

Please remember to regularly check your email addres that you have provided in your Application form.

Your Card of Documents has to be complete when sending the Application Form. Applications without the required documents will NOT be considered.

The standard documents are the basic documents that the students are asking for and the special documents are less important, as only some Local Committees ask for them. So it's mandatory to upload the standard documents, but not the special ones. (Students do it when asked for by the LEO/NEO.)
The upon arrival documents are hard copies documents that the students are requested to take with them in the host country.”
Immunization requirements

Vaccination card -

Student is required to have undergone all vaccinations according to Immunization laws of Slovak republic, minimum of: Hepatitis B, Morbilli, Mumps, Rubeola, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae - Hib, Poliomyelitis.

Tuberculosis test - Proof of a negative Mantoux skin test in the past 6 months prior to start of the exchange program is sufficient. In case of positivity or if student has undergone Mantoux skin test in the past (excluding Mantoux skin test prior to BCG vaccination), regular chest X-ray in AP projection with an interpretation by a GP/pneumologist or other authorized doctor is necessary.


Health insurance - required by our NMO. Has to be arranged in your country. Valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC card) is sufficient.

Travel insurance - NOT required by our NMO, but highly recommended. As previous, this type of insurance also has to be arranged in your country.

Malpractice insurance - NOT required by our NMO. If you want to arrange one anyway, it has to be arranged in your country.

All application documents HAVE TO be sent by DATABASE (or in case of any problem with database by e-mail to NEO-In) for the period of July - September: till the end of March Meeting, for the rest of the year: at least 3 months before the clerkship starts and have to be in pdf. or jpg. format.

All documents must be OFFICIALLY translated into ENGLISH, have all the necessary Medical Faculty and IFMSA stamps where appropriate!

SCOPE terms and conditions 2017-2018:

Language certificate must be provided in English language. LEO/NEO stamped and signed is sufficient.

No student will have boarding and lodging out of the dates specified in the CA. Dates on the CA are mandatory! If you have any special requests that can be justified, please do so BEFORE we issue the CA. Afterwards we expect you to attend the exchange exactly as we stated it.

Students must specify their exact date and time of arrival as well as their flight number in their CC. Not having sent any answer at least 2 weeks before the clerkship starts will mean the definite CANCELLATION OF THE CLERKSHIP.

Substitution has to be reported to the NEO-In at the latest 10 weeks before the scheduled start of the clerkship. The substitutes must be for the same period, gender and department.
