The student has to be familiar with english medical terminology. The incoming has to be able to communicate fluently, otherwise the exchange might be cancelled.

Some cities require basic-fluent level of Spanish depending on the department.

In Mérida, Tampico and Ciudad de México-ENMH, the student must have a basic to intermediate level of Spanish for all departments.

Clerkship Type
- Clinical Clerkship
A clinical clerkship is defined as the rotation of a student in a clinical department of a hospital or clinic, such as Dermatology and Pediatrics.
- Preclinical Clerkship
A preclinical clerkship is defined as the rotation of a student in a preclinical department at a Medical Faculty/School or Hospital, such as Biology and Chemistry
Required level of studies
We accept all grades until 6 months after graduation. Students must have studied the subject of the desired departments by the time of sending their AFs or by the beginning of their exchange.

Academic Quality

It is mandatory for all students to attend and to have active participation in all the Academic Quality activities that the Local Committee organizes.

Remember that at least 80% of stamps and signatures are required to obtain a certificate.

Once you have completed the handbook, please ask your hosting LEO to keep a copy and take the original with you.

Cities Remarks

AMMEF Mexico is implementing a new city group system. 
These are the combinations that will be accepted in your AF: ABCACCBCCCCC

GROUP A
Ciudad de México (all LCs), Guadalajara, Mérida, Morelia, Monterrey, and Zacatecas.

GROUP B
Aguscalientes UAA, Chihuahua, Culiacán, Durango, San Luis Potosí, Pachuca, Tepic, Toluca, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Veracruz Puerto, Xalapa.

GROUP C
Ciudad Juárez, Ciudad Obregón, Coatzacoalcos, Gomez Palacio, Gomez Palacio UAD, Hermosillo, Saltillo, Tampico, Tampico UAT, Tampico IEST, Torreón.

Please, make sure that your AF has a valid combination for your preference cities and 3 different cities. Otherwise, your AF will be returned.

Ciudad Obregon, Chihuahua, Zacatecas, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Morelia,  Ciudad Juarez, Gomez Palacio, Mérida, San Luis Potosi, Tampico IEST, Monterrey, Xalapa, Culiacan and Pachuca CAN ACCEPT preclinical students.

Read your preferred cities EC's to see if you need to bring any special material, documentation or uniform (ID photos, complete white uniform, etc).



Calendar Remarks

Preclinical students AFs will be accepted only with the previous approval of the NEO In, who must receive the request from the sending NEO.

Preclinical students are required to send AF 4 months before the desired exchange date.

Special Remarks
Students with disabilities need to send AFs at least 4 months in advance and describe their type of disability on it.

Cities with the option to receive students with disabilities: Morelia, Tepic, Pachuca, Ciudad de México-UNAM, Monterrey, San Luis Potosi, Mérida, Ciudad Juarez, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Ciudad de México-ESM, Gomez Palacio UAD and Chihuahua.

We accept graduate students only 6 months after concluding school.

Usually, we only give the IL, but if you need another type of document please ask your NEO to request it for you.

If you need the ORIGINAL INVITATION LETTER the deadline for soliciting it is 8 weeks prior to the IFMSA General Assembly (March or August). Original Invitation Letters WILL NOT BE PROVIDED if solicited in other dates or sent via regular mail.

Apply for Tourist VISA, not for Student VISA. Please check if your country needs a visa for Mexico in Mexican Visa Policy or your Mexican Embassy.

The standard documents are the basic documents that the students are asking for and the special documents are less important, as only some Local Committees ask for them. So it's mandatory to upload the standard documents, but not the special ones. (Students do it when asked for by the LEO/NEO.)
The upon arrival documents are hard copies documents that the students are requested to take with them in the host country.”
Immunization requirements
All students has to be immunized against:
-Hepatitis B
-Influenza
-Diphtheria and Tetanus
-Measles and Rubella
-BCG (optional depending on country of origin)

 Important: If any of the aforementioned vaccines (such as BCG) are not included in your national vaccination schedule, No problem! only write the following legend in the respective vaccination space in the Health and Immunization Form: "vaccine not available in a national scheme".

Insurance
As NMO we require that all students have to acquire mandatory a Liability Insurance and Health Insurance (both).

Health insurance: Needs to be uploaded to the Card of Documents when you send the Card of Confirmation. If you do not upload Health Insurance your exchange will be canceled. Please, confirm your insurance company's telephone number in México and its coverage especially for the city you are doing your clerkship. Remember, the health insurance CANNOT be arranged in Mexico and it must be arranged in your home country.

Liability insurance: It must be paid by the student. You can arrange it by yourself in your country of origin. It has to be already active  in your first day of hospital.

-You have to bring the original copy of this document when you come to Mexico and give it to your LEO the first day of clerkship.
