A clinical clerkship is defined as the rotation of a student in a clinical department of a hospital or clinic, such as Dermatology and Pediatrics.

Academic Quality
Incoming students are expected to fill in their logbook in order to get a certificate. If you come without one, our LEOs will be able to provide you one.

The student is expected to maintain formal dress code during clerkship and carry the required instruments as listed above.

Clerkship starts on the 1st day of the month and ends on the last day of the month and is only on the weekdays, Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm. Punctuality is a requirement. Week-end and night shifts may be required by the department and the particular school.

Attendance of 80% of the required activity (wards, classes, labs) is compulsory in order to get the IFMSA certificate. Students are expected to participate maximally in the program.

Cities Remarks
For the University of Nairobi, students are required to write official letters addressed to the Dean of the Medical School from the student's Dean. The letter should be signed and stamped by the student's Dean. 

The motivation letter to the departments has to be an official letter with the address of both the sending and hosting university and signed and stamped by the student to make it valid.

Some institutions insist on ONLY accepting students in areas they have already studied. Please make sure to only choose an exchange in a specialty you have already studied and passed. If you do not respect this condition, the Application Form will be sent back.

Special Remarks
UNILATERAL STUDENTS

 All unilateral payments must be done 2 weeks prior to the exchange starting date. Details of the bank account will be emailed to you once you receive your card of acceptance. The receipt must be sent to neoin.msake@gmail.com with your full names, AF number and your NMO. 

CANCELLATION
 In case of any cancellation prior to the exchange, there will be no refund of the fee.

The standard documents are the basic documents that the students are asking for and the special documents are less important, as only some Local Committees ask for them. So it's mandatory to upload the standard documents, but not the special ones. (Students do it when asked for by the LEO/NEO.)
The upon arrival documents are hard copies documents that the students are requested to take with them in the host country.”

Insurance
Proof of having paid health insurance and travel insurance is mandatory before receiving the Card of Acceptance otherwise the Application Form will be sent back and the exchange might be cancelled.
Travel and Health Insurance should be purchased in your home country. Malpractice insurance is not a requirement at the moment. Should the students wish to have it, they need to arrange it in their own country as this insurance cannot be arranged in Kenya.

Students who send late CCs may lose accommodation and/or a position at the hospital. It is very important that the CCs reach us before the expected deadline. If your CC does not reach us by the deadline we shall consider your electives cancelled. Any changes with your travel arrangements should be communicated to us within 5 days of your arrival.

In your CC, please mention your date and time of arrival, the flight number and airline and the airport and terminal you will be arriving at.

If you intend to participate in any other activities outseide the exchange like going on safari, kindly let us know before you arrive.

The student will be held responsible for any material damage he/she causes. 

MSAKE reserves the right to cancel any exchange and revoke any housing arrangement if it receives any complaints of misdemeanor or unethical conduct in the hospital and/or at the student hostels.

Student are expected to take the clerkship seriously, conduct themselves accordingly and participate maximally. Remember the 80% requirement. You must fill the evaluation form online before you leave to get you certificate. LEOs will not send certificates by post afterwards.

Students will be attached to at least one LEO. It is expected that you will keep in contact with the LEO assigned to you. Refer any queries to him/her or to the NEO.

Students are expected to take antimalarial prophylaxis medication during their stay in the country.
