Languages Remarks
An official language certificate is required (no certificates signed by NEO/LEO are accepted unless agreed between NEOs). As an official language certificate is considered (TOEFL score=72, IELTS score=6, CEFR. B2 level).  In case of studying on an English-speaking medical school, just a proof of enrollment is also accepted. Certificates that are signed by NEO/NORE, LEO/LORE and informal certificates (by a private, unrecognized institution, self-written notes or otherwise) will be considered INVALID and your AF may be sent back. Otherwise, the LEO has the right to ask for a Skype call. If the student’s level of English is considered as UNSUFFICIENT or the student refuses, the Exchange is cancelled directly!
Clerkship Type
- Clinical Clerkship
A clinical clerkship is defined as the rotation of a student in a clinical department of a hospital or clinic, such as Dermatology and Pediatrics.
Required level of studies

Students applying for a SCOPE Exchange in Greece must have attended successfully at least 1 subject with clinical courses in the home university and they must be enrolled as MEDICAL students. LC Heraklion accepts only MEDICAL students who have finished their 4th year of studies. AFs which do not meet these requirements will be sent back.

Graduated students allowed

Even if accepted by the hosting country, students must be still enrolled in university by the time the Application Form is sent.

Academic Quality
The students are required to bring with them the Student's Handbook. It is necessary to be completely filled and signed by the tutor in order to get a certificate.

To obtain the SCOPE certificate the student has also to:

Complete 80% of the Clerkship.

Special Remarks
Dress Code: The students should wear at the hospital clean clothes, long shirts and trousers, as well a closed shoes which are more appropriate for the hospital.

Cities Remarks


Calendar Remarks
For the months: February, March, May, June, July, August, September, October and November we accept students only for CALENDAR MONTHS!

For the months December, January and April, we accept students as following:

December: 20th of November to 20th of December
January: 7th of January to 7th of February
April: 21st of March to 21st of April

AFs sent for calendar months of December, January and April or AFs been sent for non-calendar months (for the other ones) will be sent back!

Social Program

Social Program is based on voluntary basis and varies according to the students' exam periods.

A National Social Program in famous touristic places within Greece will be organised for incomings attending a clerkship during July & August.

Special Remarks
  • As stated in the SCOPE regulations, any damages made in the place of lodging by the incoming student MUST be paid by him/her.
  • In case of lodging in an apartment, the same lodging might be shared by individuals of various genders. The student retains the right not to be placed in a mixed gender room only if stated on the AF. We will inform you by e-mail in case of mixed gender rooms as well.
  • Boarding and lodging is provided only for students with CAs and it is not provided for friends and relatives. If the exchangee takes advantage of the boarding and lodging offered by the committee to host another person, his/her clerkship will be interrupted.
  • Incoming students should respect the rules of the hospital, the dormitories and any rules of the host student’s place. Clerkships may be automatically cancelled if the Local Committee receives complaints from the hospital,  the dormitories or the host student.
  • In case of lodging in an apartment the student might be required to pay a guarantee defined from the LC, which will be returned at the end of the clerkship.
  • Students are supposed to arrive to Greece on or after the date that clerkship starts, due to complications with lodging if they arrive earlier. Also, the student is required to arrive within 4 days from the start of the clerkship.
  • Picking up the students is offered only during day. The Local Committee cannot guarantee that there will be someone available to pick you up during the night.
  • People coming in the winter (December-January-February): please bring with you warm clothes and people coming during summer (June-July-August): please bring with you clothes for hot temperatures (25 degrees Celcius and above).
  • Pets are not allowed.

Payment details for unilateral fee

The payment must be finalized through a Bank Transfer no later than 2 weeks before the exchange starts. The details of the bank account to which the money has to be transferred, will be sent by email from LEO.

Once the transfer has been made effective you must send a receipt to the LEO.

No refunds of the unilateral fee are available.

Visa requirements
Please apply for Tourist VISA. If you apply for any other kind of visa, we do not take any responsibility and we won't be able to solve any problem with your embassy.

Some Non-EU countries require VISA. Please check with the local Greek Embassy and inform us so an invitation letter will be sent to the student.

After the invitation letter is sent, no change in period or substitution can be accepted.

Special Remarks
All AFs for July, August and September must be sent before 15th of February. AFs for any of these months sent after this deadline will be rejected so make sure to send them in time.

AFs for all other months must be sent at least 4 months prior to the exchange. AFs that are sent after the deadline will immediately be returned, unless agreed upon differently by both NEOs.

Not all the fields are available in every city in every month. Incoming students should therefore have several choices for the department.

If you fill in only one choice , this does not mean you will be placed in that department but you agree to any department if the one of the chosen is not available.

The standard documents are the basic documents that the students are asking for and the special documents are less important, as only some Local Committees ask for them. So it's mandatory to upload the standard documents, but not the special ones. (Students do it when asked for by the LEO/NEO.)
The upon arrival documents are hard copies documents that the students are requested to take with them in the host country.”
Immunization requirements
  • All incoming students must have been immunized for Hepatitis B and meningitidococcus when applying for a SCOPE Exchange to Greece.

As NMO we require Health Insurance & Liability Insurance however, this insurance CANNOT be arranged in our country and should be arranged in your home country.

As NMO we do not ask for Travel Insurance thus the exchange student is not required to be insured for Travel Insurance, the Travel Insurance should be arranged in your home country if wanted, we do not have this type of insurance in our country.

All documents must be uploaded on the AF.

  • Any AF missing essential documents will be considered invalid and will be returned without saving a spot for the student.
    No hard copies of documents will be accepted at any time.
  • An official language certificate (TOEFL score=72, IELTS score=6, CEFR level B2) is required (no certificates signed by NEO/LEO are accepted unless agreed by the NEOs).
  • All documents must be in English. If they are in any other language the AF will be sent back.
  • SCOPE Terms and Conditions should be signed, scanned and uploaded in the Card of Documents! The student should upload all 4 pages in the Card of Documents!
  • You can find the required Immunization Form here 
  • If the student is obliged by the home university to attend specific departments during the exchange, he/she needs to state it at his/her AF. In addition, he/she needs to upload in the Card of Documents, in the option “Other” all the documents that are needed to be signed by the tutor or the hospital, when sending the AF, with a letter describing what needs to be signed by whom and with a clear deadline. Papers, which are sent to the LEO after sending the AF, will not be accepted!

CA will be sent at least 8 weeks in advance.
After the CA is sent no changes of the LC can be made.

Note that we only provide lodging for the mentioned period in the CA.
If the student wishes to arrive before or stay after this period, the student must contact the LEO to ask their permission.

If you have ANY dietary preferences or restrictions (e.g. vegeterianism/veganism, celiac disease, allergies, halal or any other), make sure to notify us as soon as possible after receiving your CA, otherwise we will not be able to accommodate you.

Health Insurance and Malpractice Insurance are required and must be arranged by the student and a certificate must be sent along with CC.

Students without insurance will not be accepted.

These remarks are very important to us and any student not following them will make us cancel his/ her clerkship.
