An official language certificate is required (no certificates signed by NEO/LEO are accepted). As an official language certificate is considered (TOEFL score=72, IELTS score=6, CEFR. B2 level).  In case of studying in an English-speaking medical school, just a proof of enrollment is also accepted. Certificates that are signed by NEO/NORE, LEO/LORE and informal certificates (by a private, unrecognized institution, self-written notes) will be considered INVALID and your AF may be sent back. Otherwise, the LEO or NEO has the right to ask for a Skype call. If the student’s level of English is considered as UNSUFFICIENT by the supervising professor or the student refuses to participate in the Skype Call, the Exchange will be cancelled directly!

Clerkship Type
- Clinical Clerkship
A clinical clerkship is defined as the rotation of a student in a clinical department of a hospital or clinic, such as Dermatology and Pediatrics.
Required level of studies

Students applying for a Professional Exchange in Greece must have attended successfully at least 1 subject including clinical courses in their university and they must be enrolled as MEDICAL students. LC Heraklion accepts only MEDICAL students who have finished their 4th year of studies. AFs which do not meet these requirements will be sent back.

Academic Quality

The students are required to bring with them the Student's Handbook. It is necessary to be completely filled and signed by the tutor in order to obtain the Certificate.


To obtain the SCOPE certificate the student has also to:


  • Complete at least 80% of the Clerkship.
  • Fill our own Evaluation Form.

Dress Code: At the hospital the students should wear clean, non revealing clothes, long trousers, as well as closed shoes which are more appropriate for the hospital.

Cities Remarks

 Not all departments are available in every LC in every month. 

There are 3 Zones of LCs as mentioned below:

Zone Ι: Athens, Thessaloniki, Herakleion

Zone ΙΙ: Patras, Ioannina

Zone ΙΙΙ: Alexandroupolis, Larissa

  1. The student must have 1 option per zone in the AF (for example: Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Larissa), with the exception of the months that less than 3 LCs accept incoming students. 
  2. Be careful with the months that each LC accepts incoming students! In your AF only the available ones should appear. 
Calendar Remarks

For the months: February, March, June, July, August, September, October and November we accept students only for CALENDAR MONTHS!

For the months January 2021 and May 2021, we accept students as following:

  • January: 11th of January to 5th of February
  • May: 11th of March to 4th of June

* April and December:  We are not going to accept any student during April 2021 and December 2021, due to Easter and Christmas Holidays respectively.

AFs sent for calendar months of April and January or AFs been sent for non-calendar months (for the other ones) will be sent back!

Social Program

Social Program is based on voluntary basis and varies according to the students' exam periods.

A National Social Program in famous touristic places within Greece will be organised for incomings attending a clerkship during July & August.

Special Remarks
  • As stated in the SCOPE regulations, any damages made in the place of lodging by the incoming students MUST be paid by them.
  • In case of lodging in an apartment, the same lodging might be shared by individuals of various genders. The student retains the right not to be placed in a mixed gender room only if stated on the AF. We will inform you by e-mail in case of mixed gender rooms as well.
  • Boarding and lodging is provided only for students with CAs and it is not provided for friends and relatives. If the exchangee takes advantage of the boarding and lodging offered by the committee to host another person, his/her clerkship will be interrupted.
  • Incoming students should respect the rules of the hospital, the dormitories and any rules of the host student’s place. Clerkships may be automatically cancelled if the Local Committee receives complaints from the hospital, the dormitories or the host student.
  • In case of lodging in an apartment the incoming student might be required to pay a deposit defined from the LC, which will be returned at the end of the clerkship, provided that no damage is caused.
  • Students are supposed to arrive to Greece on or after the date that clerkship starts, due to complications with lodging if they arrive earlier. Also, the student is required to arrive within 4 days from the start of the clerkship.
  • Picking up the students is offered only during day. The Local Committee cannot guarantee that there will be someone available to pick you up during the night.
  • People coming in the winter (December-January-February): please bring with you warm clothes and people coming during summer (June-July-August): please bring with you clothes appropriate for high temperatures (25 degrees Celsius and above).
  • Pets are not allowed.

Payment details for unilateral fee

The payment must be made through a Bank Transfer no later than 2 weeks before the exchange starts. The details of the bank account to which the money has to be transferred, will be sent by the LEO via email.

Once the transfer has been made successfully you must send the receipt of payment to the LEO.

No refunds of the unilateral fee are available.

*In case of very late cancellations, when the LC has already spent a sum of money for lodging & boarding, without a possibility of refunding, the unilateral fee should be paid by the student. 

Visa requirements

Please apply for Tourist VISA. If you apply for any other type of visa, we do not take any responsibility and we can not guarantee the acquisition of it.


Some Non-EU countries require VISA. Please check the requirements of the local Greek Embassy and let us know as soon as possible, so as to send immediately the invitation letter to the student.


In case you are aware of the high level of difficulty in obtaining VISA in your country, please let us know in order to prepare the CA and your Invitation Letter far sooner than the official deadline of the SCOPE Regulations, in order to arrange on time your appointment at the Embassy.

Special Remarks

All AFs for July, August and September must be sent before 15th of February. AFs for any of these months sent after this deadline will be rejected so make sure to send them in time.


AFs for all other months must be sent at least 4 months prior to the exchange. AFs that are sent after the deadline will immediately be returned, unless agreed upon differently by both NEOs.

The standard documents are the basic documents that the students are asking for and the special documents are less important, as only some Local Committees ask for them. So it's mandatory to upload the standard documents, but not the special ones. (Students do it when asked for by the LEO/NEO.)
The upon arrival documents are hard copies documents that the students are requested to take with them in the host country.”
Immunization requirements
  • All incoming students must have been immunized for Hepatitis B, Measles and  Meningitidococcus when applying for a SCOPE Exchange in Greece.
     

Insurance

As NMO we require Health Insurance & Liability Insurance. However, this insurance CANNOT be arranged in our country and should be arranged in your home country before departure.The insurance documents should be uploaded in the CoD before sending your CC.

As NMO we do not ask for Travel Insurance thus the exchange student is not required to be insured for Travel Insurance. The Travel Insurance should be arranged in your home country if you wish to obtain it, since we can not provide this type of insurance in our country.

All documents must be uploaded in the database.

  • Any AF missing essential documents will be considered invalid and will be returned without saving a spot for the student.
    No hard copies of documents will be accepted at any time.
  • An official language certificate (TOEFL score=72, IELTS score=6, CEFR level B2) is required (no certificates signed by NEO/LEO are accepted unless agreed by the NEOs).
  • All documents must be in English. If they are in any other language the AF will be sent back.
  • SCOPE Terms and Conditions should be signed, scanned and uploaded in the Card of Documents! The student should upload all 4 pages in the Card of Documents!
  • You can find the required Immunization Form here 
  • If the student is obliged by the home university to attend specific departments during the exchange, he/she needs to state it clearly in his/her AF. 
  • The student needs to upload in the Card of Documents, in the option “Other” all the special documents that need to be signed by the tutor or the university, when sending the AF, with a letter describing what needs to be signed by whom, with a clear deadline. Please state it in your AF as well.

After the CA is sent no changes of the LC can be made. 

Note that we only provide lodging for the period mentioned in the CA. 

*If the student wishes to arrive before or stay after this period, the student must contact the LEO before booking the tickets, in order to ask if this would be possible.


If you have ANY dietary preferences or restrictions (e.g. vegeterianism/veganism, celiac disease, allergies, halal or any other), make sure to let us know as soon as possible after receiving your CA, otherwise we may not be able to satisfy these needs.

We do not accept students funded by pharmaceutical companies. 

These remarks are very important to us and any student not following them will make us cancel his/ her clerkship.
