We follow the IFMSA Academic Quality requirements and as so expect you to attend at least 80 % of the exchange.

We expect all incoming students to bring a logbook - if your country does not have a logbook we will provide you with the danish version in digital form for you to print before arrival.
NO certificates will be issued without the presentation of the filled out logbook.
We expect that the student has read these conditions carefully. We will deny the exchange if the applying student does not fulfill these conditions.

Special Remarks

Hospital clothes (O.R. and whitecoat) are provided, but you must bring your own shoes to wear at the hospital.

Long sleeves are not allowed. Neither jewelry below the elbows nor nail polish. Please dress respectfully. Special hospital scarfs for hijabs are handed out at the hospital and you are not allowed to wear your own at the hospital.

Working days: Monday - Friday, 8AM to around 3/4 PM.

It is possible to arrange night shifts if wanted.

We would like to emphasize that this is NOT a vacation. We expect you to work full hours at the hospital in order to receive your certificate. The department will expect you every day, and if you are ill or for other reasons cannot go, you must inform the hospital.

Furthermore it is expected that you stay in the department assigned to you. If you for some reason wish to see something else, you MUST talk with your assigned department about it.
Also, we expect students to respect the hospital as a place with emphasis on strict confidentiality and respect of the patients and there personal data.

We cannot guarantee which department you will be assigned to, and out of the summer season (july+august) it is rare that we can assign you to one of the first 4 priorities. Please be respectful towards our local officers who are doing their best to arrange a department and an exchange stay for you.

Cities Remarks

Please keep in mind, that almost all students apply for Copenhagen, and it is impossible for us to place everyone in Copenhagen.

Further more in Copenhagen all hospitals connected to the university in the capital region are included AND Køge + Roskilde Hospital. This means there might be a longer distance from the place from lodging to the hospital. Many students are placed in Hillerød Hospital, which is a great hospital, but the distance to central Copenhagen is 45 minutes.

The expenses of transportation between lodging and the hospitals in ALL cities is to be payed by the student. If you get placed in Copenhagen you have to accept the price of the public transportation to the hospital which may be 200 euro for a month.

Calendar Remarks

Clerkship are 4 weeks and must always start on the Monday closest to the 1st of the month (please note that this can also mean the last days of the previous month), and ends on the Friday of the fourth week.

The department will expect you on the first day (Monday) at 8 o'clock - so make sure you arrive Sunday evening at the latest!

If the student does not arrive at the hospital at 8 o'clock the first day, the hospital will cancel the clerkship.

Disciplines Remarks

We cannot guarantee your 1st choice of department so do prioritize 4 different departments, at least one medical and one surgical. Let us know in the comments of the AF if you prefer any medical/surgical department due to your medical school's curriculum.

If we cannot fulfill the first 4 priorities, we will try to contact you to ask for new priorities, so check your email!

Emergency medicine: Means that you will be placed in the departments of orthopedic surgery as this is the department that runs the E.R. - you will be working in the E.R.

Psychiatry: You must speak Danish.

Maxillo-facial surgery: Is in Denmark done by dentists.

We do not have neither General Medicine or General Surgery - all medical departments are specialized.

We strongly recomment you to join these weekends, the price is around 500 DKK per weekend.

Transportation and other variable costs are not included in the fee and will be at your own expense.

Rest of the year: No major social program. But all students have a contact person that will take good care of you, and all cities have welcome dinners for the students.

Upon arrivel the student is obligated to pay a deposit of €100 (paid in 2x€50) which will be refunded at the end of the stay, if the lodging is in the same condition as it was at check-in/arrivel. If you do NOT clean the apartment thoughroughly after your stay the CP will take 50 € from your deposit which will be used to pay for cleaning of the apartment.

In many cases the student will be staying in rented apartments/rooms in which case we require that the students take the full responsibility of renting the place (we pay the rent and do the arrangements of course).

PLEASE NOTE that you will have your own room, but often the apparment or dormitory hallway is shared with other students of mixed gender. Upon special request in AF female/male-only lodging is possible.

Depending on the LC you either get a meal ticket to use at the hospital cantine for lunch or 500DKK so you can bring lunch to the hospital.
THIS ALSO MEANS YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SELF DURING THE EXCHANGE, COOK YOUR OWN MEALS (Breakfast and dinner), WASH YOUR OWN CLOTHES AND CLEANING THE APARTMENT.

(even if you are staying at the house of a danish family, they are only expected to show you how to use their kitchen, NOT cook meals for you, and you still prepare your own breakfast and dinner)

Contact NEO in case of a disability and we will discuss within the Exchange group and with the hospital, if it is possible to accept a student with disabilities.

Immunization requirements

As NMO we do not require any specific immunizations.

Danish medical students are adviced to get the tetanus toxin and Hepatitis B vaccinations, and so are you. Specially if you are doing your Exchange in a surgical department.

Insurance

As NMO we require Health Insurance. However, this insurance CANNOT be arranged in our country and should be arranged in your home country.

As NMO we require Liability Insurance, for the sake of the lodging, if something unexpected happens, that cannot be covered by the 100 euro deposit. Again, this insurance CANNOT be arranged in our country and should be arranged in your home country.

As NMO we do not ask for Travel Insurace, however we recommend it. Thus the exchange student is not required to be insured for Travels. The Travel Insurance should be arranged in your home country if wanted.

As NMO we do not ask for Malpractice Insurace, thus the exchange student is not required to acquire a Malpractice Insurance.
The Malpractice Insurance should be arranged in your home country if wanted.
