OVERVIEW
Uruguay is a country in the southeastern region of South America. It is bordered by Argentina to its west and Brazil to its north and east, with the Atlantic Ocean to the south and southeast. Uruguay is ranked first in Latin America in democracy, peace, lack of corruption and quality of living.
HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
Uruguayan Health System has two major funding sources, public and private. Public sources include mandatory contributions from workers and enterprises in the formal sector of the economy,  and also mandatory contributions from public sector workers and general taxation. The resources are collected in the National Health Fund (FONASA). The National Resource Fund (FNR) ensures coverage of catastrophic interventions and also technological interventions of high complexity and high cost. There are also private insurances but they cover about 2% of the population only. The Ministry of Public Health is in charge of health policy and also ensures the resources of the state health of indigent population.
 
MEDICAL EDUCATION
We have a medical career with a duration of 7 years. From the fourth year of our studies we start going to the hospital and do our internships in all the different departaments (internal medicina, sergury, etc). In our last year, we have the practical year and after that we become general practitioners. The graduated profile of uruguayan's doctors is the prifile of a doctor who is responsible, with a solid scientific and clinical training, able to do correct diagnoses, make the right desitions and also being able to communicate in their mission to prevent, cure and derive properly. Deeply humanistic and critical, ready to investigate and to educate and be educated.

MUST SEE
Uruguay is a small country but it has a lot to see. You can't leave Uruguay without visiting our beautiful beaches such as Piriápolis and Punta del Este (Maldonado) and also La Paloma, La Pedrera, Punta del Diablo, Valizas and Cabo Polonio (Rocha). You'll find typical food wich is very good!
CULTURAL DIFFERENCES
Uruguay is a secular and paceful country, with no major cultural differences.
