Lucknow is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and is also the administrative headquarters of the eponymous District and Division. Historically, the capital of Awadh was controlled by the Delhi Sultanate which later came under the Mughal rule. It was transferred to the Nawabs of Awadh. In 1856, the British East India Company abolished local rule and took complete control of the city along with the rest of Awadh and, in 1857, transferred it to the British Raj. Along with the rest of India, Lucknow became independent from Britain on 15 August 1947. It has been listed the 17th fastest growing city in India and 74th in the world.
Era's Lucknow Medical College and Hospital was established in 2001 under the aegis of Era Educational Trust with a vision to establish a centre of excellence in the field of Medical Education, Health Care and Research. After getting recognition in the year 2006 for MBBS degree course from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and Medical Council of India, the college is now running postgraduate courses in 19 subjects.
